Brad Ausmus won’t be taking much of a vacation after all.

The former Detroit Tigers manager will reportedly be hired as a special assistant to Los Angeles Angels general manager Billy Eppler, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group.

Ausmus’ contract was not renewed in Detroit following a 64-98 season, tied for MLB’s worst record with the San Francisco Giants. Over four seasons with the Tigers, Ausmus compiled a 314-332 record, making the postseason only once, and getting swept in the process.

The 48-year-old Ausmus played parts of 18 seasons in the majors, spending the bulk of his time with the Houston Astros. A one-time All-Star, he retired from playing after the 2010 season.
